Hydrogen embrittlement occurs in heat treated products which are chemically cleaned and/or subject to electro chemical treatments. In the course of the coating process Hydrogen may be absorbed and can result in the product failure.
Parts that are considered to be at risk have a tensile strength equal or greater than 10.9 quality ( Metric ) T quality/SAE 8 ( Imperial ).
Baking ( De Embrittlement ) will minimise this risk, but complete elimination of Hydrogen embrittlement cannot be assured or guaranteed.
