QA Engineer Role Purpose:
To ensure all fasteners manufactured, processed, or supplied meet required customer, industry, and regulatory standards. The QA Engineer is responsible for maintaining quality systems, conducting inspections/testing, driving continuous improvement, and supporting production, suppliers, and customers with technical quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Control & Inspection
- Conduct dimensional, mechanical, and visual inspection of fasteners to relevant standards (ISO 898, ISO 3506, ISO 3269, ASTM, BS, DIN etc.).
- Perform hardness, tensile, proof load, coating thickness, and torque testing.
- Maintain and calibrate inspection/test equipment such as micrometers, gauges, spectrometers, hardness testers, torque testers.
2. Quality Assurance & Systems
- Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS) (ISO 9001, IATF 16949 if automotive).
- Ensure documentation, procedures, and work instructions are up to date.
- Conduct internal audits; support external customer/third-party audits.
- Manage non-conformances (NCRs), root cause analysis, and corrective actions (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa).
3. Supplier Quality
- Provide incoming goods inspection of fasteners and plated/treated components.
- Manage supplier NCRs and follow up on corrective actions.
- Qualify and audit suppliers for capability, capacity, and compliance to standards.
4. Customer Support
- Produce quality documentation (Certificates of Conformance, PPAP, FAI reports, ISIR, Inspection Reports).
- Investigate customer complaints and conduct failure analysis using tools such as microscopy, hardness testing, and material verification.
- Support customers with technical queries relating to fastener grades, coatings, plating, and performance.
5. Production & Process Support
- Work closely with manufacturing, machining, plating, or heat-treatment teams to identify root causes of defects.
- Develop process control plans, PFMEAs, and inspection standards.
- Drive continuous improvement projects across processes and quality workflows.
