Bespoke M27 × 2.0 × 197/45 Grade 8.8 DIN 931 Hex Bolts

Victory Fasteners recently manufactured a batch of bespoke M27 × 2.0 × 197/45 Grade 8.8 hex bolts, machined to a customer-supplied drawing.

The specification combined an M27 × 2.0 thread with head dimensions manufactured to the requirements of an M30 DIN 931 hex bolt. A controlled shank diameter and extended plain section were also required, making standard finished fasteners unsuitable for the application.

Customer Specification

The bespoke hex bolts were manufactured with the following requirements:

• M27 × 2.0 × 197/45
• Property Class 8.8
• DIN 931 hex bolt form
• Head dimensions to DIN 931 M30
• Shank diameter controlled between 29.7 and 29.8 mm
• 158 mm plain shank
• Manufactured to the customer’s drawing
• Prepared for zinc flake coating

Manufactured from Stock Bolt Blanks

Suitable bolt blanks were selected from Victory Fasteners’ stockholding, providing a responsive starting point for the manufacturing process.

Using stock blanks can reduce the time associated with sourcing specialist raw material while still allowing the finished component to be machined to a precise customer specification.

In-House Manufacturing Process

Each bolt progressed through a controlled sequence of operations:

• Stock blank selection
• Cutting to the required length
• Turning the shank to the specified diameter
• Screw cutting the M27 × 2.0 thread
• Dimensional inspection
• Preparation for zinc flake coating

Particular attention was given to maintaining the specified 29.7–29.8 mm shank diameter, the 158 mm plain section and the required thread form.

Following inspection, the completed bolts were prepared for zinc flake coating in accordance with the customer’s finishing requirements.
