Custom M30 × 2.00 × 500 Grade 8.8 Studs

Manufactured to Drawing with DNV 3.2 Inspection

Victory Fasteners recently completed the in-house manufacture of M30 × 2.00 × 500 mm grade 8.8 double-ended studs, produced to a customer-specific engineering drawing and supplied with DNV third-party inspection to meet EN 10204 Type 3.2 certification requirements.

The studs were required for a critical application where dimensional accuracy, material traceability and independently verified inspection documentation were essential.

Customer Specification

Each stud was manufactured to the following requirements:

• M30 × 2.00 fine-pitch thread
• 500 mm overall length
• Property class 8.8
• Thread lengths of 115 mm and 150 mm, as specified
• 6.00 mm drilled hole
• Hole positioned 26 mm from the end to its centre
• Manufactured to customer drawing
• DNV third-party inspection
• EN 10204 Type 3.2 certification requirements

Manufactured In-House

Suitable traceable material was selected from stock, helping Victory Fasteners maintain control over the manufacturing programme and respond efficiently to the customer’s requirements.

The production process was completed through Victory’s in-house machining capabilities and included:

• Material identification and traceability checks
• Cutting material to the required length
• Machining to the customer drawing
• Producing the M30 × 2.00 threads
• Drilling the specified 6.00 mm hole
• Dimensional and visual inspection
• Preparation for independent third-party inspection

The fine-pitch threads were machined to the specified lengths at each end, while the cross-drilled hole was accurately positioned 26 mm from the end to its centre.

DNV Third-Party Inspection

This order required a higher level of inspection and certification than a standard EN 10204 Type 3.1 supply.

Type 3.2 certification, the manufacturer’s inspection and traceability records are supplemented by independent verification. For this project, an external DNV inspector attended to inspect the goods and verify the applicable documentation and inspection results.

This independent involvement provides an additional level of assurance for fasteners intended for critical applications, including marine, offshore and classified equipment.

Importantly, Type 3.2 describes the required inspection and certification level; it is not a separate fastener material grade. The studs remained manufactured to property class 8.8, with the material, manufacturing records and inspection documentation verified against the agreed requirements. 

Controlled Manufacture for Critical Applications

Orders requiring DNV involvement demand careful planning, complete traceability and close control throughout production. Manufacturing the studs in-house allowed Victory Fasteners to manage each stage, from stock material selection and machining through to final inspection and third-party verification.

The completed M30 studs were manufactured to the customer drawing and prepared with the independently verified documentation required for this critical application.
